This morning, I received an email from Maddie's teacher. She mentioned that Maddie finally opened up to her about my treatment and is concerned about the medicine I am taking and how it makes me feel. This, for me, is heartbreaking ...
All this time, we have been working so hard to keep things as normal as possible. But, obviously, things are different ... and Maddie recognizes the change ...
After our talk the other night ... I do feel better about her willingness to talk ... and I hope she continues to do so. For now, though, I would love for each of you to stop and say a prayer for my children, specifically Maddie ...
I DO NOT want this experience to strip her of the happiness she deserves ... from the innocence of childhood ... I do, however, hope that my strength will serve as reminder to her that anything, however big or small, can be overcome ... with hope ... with love ... and with faith!
This, too, shall pass ...
Here's to preserving my baby's innocence ... as long as possible ...

Your strength will be something she will carry with her forever! She will be able to look back on this, as you will, and say my mom is a ROCKSTAR and fought with all she has to beat this thing!! Keep up the hard work and know that you have so many people behind you, lifting you and your family up in prayer!!! We love you!!!
Something tells me Maddie has inherited her mother's strenghth, she just hasn't grown into all of it yet.
She will need reassurance quite often that Mommy will get better, it will just take some time. Remind her the doctors said you will become well, and YOU know you will be well. Think of something she can do to "make you feel better" when you're not at your best, maybe a cool cloth on your head, keeping you company while you rest etc. Her challenges will be easier to handle when she can be proactive in the remedy. Children are stronger than we often give them credit for. She too, will become a stronger person. She will exercise compassion, empathy, patience and consideration among other life lessons during your journey to wellness. Lots of prayers, hugs and kisses will help her along the way.
Maddie is YOUR daughter after all, she will be fine, just like you!
Love,
Kelly
Your concern over this breaks my heart too. I know Maddie...and she is going to be stronger and wiser for it. I know you think this is somehow "changing" her childhood....but I honestly believe it will all be for positive things. Afterall...she is YOUR daughter. Her pride in you will be with her for the rest of her life. Hang in there Mom!
